Emanuel Philip Adler

Emanuel Philip Adler (1872–1949), known by the public as E.P. Adler, was a newspaper editor and publisher, president of Lee Syndicate newspapers, businessman, civic leader in Davenport, Iowa, and philanthropist for community and religious causes of several faiths. 

Adler served on the Jewish Council for the School of Religion and was one of the original members of the board of trustees, serving as the second vice president of the School of Religion when it opened in 1927.  The board aimed to have representatives from Catholic, Jewish, and Protestant traditions, as well as University members, to teach different religious traditions and interpretations. 

E.P. Adler's philanthropy and service to the School of Religion allowed it to continue on long after his death in 1949. In honor of his dedication, we highlight that our conference is named after him and will be held in the Adler Journalism and Mass Communication Building, which is named after his son Philip D. Adler (1904 - 1984).
